BMA Climate Programme Milestone

British Medical Auctions are proud to have reached the 1,000 trees planted milestone with Ecologi.

BMA and it's employees work with Ecologi to offset the carbon footprint of each our employees at work and at home. In the first 4 months of partnering with Ecologi we have offset over 70 tonnes of carbon dioxide, financed the planting of over 1,000 trees and most recently, supported a waste bio-gas electricity generation project in Thailand and a cookstoves project in Honduras.

The Thailand bio-gas project mitigates greenhouse gas emissions caused by the decomposition of wastewater from the Thai San Miguel Liquor (TSML) distillery in Bangkok, by capturing bio-gas from wastewater and converting it to electricity in newly-installed engines. The electricity is then used to replace the fossil fuel energy which powers the TSML boilers, and is also exported to the Thai national grid. Estimated emissions reductions from this project around over 87,000 tonnes per year.

In Honduras, 1.1 million families cook with biomass on open stoves, representing around 51% of the total population. The cutting down of trees for fuel for open stoves is one of the contributing factors toward the country having one of the highest rates of deforestation in Latin America. This small-scale project, run locally in Honduras involves the distribution of 300,000 fuel-efficient cookstoves in households across the country. This project will generate around 42,000 verified tonnes of emissions reductions annually, saving approximately 5.1 million tonnes of wood over 5 years, and supporting 200 direct jobs.
