Environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility

Environmental and Social responsibility is at the centre of the British Medical Auction’s strategy.  As the core of our business extends the life of medical equipment, we bring benefits to those who receive the much-needed equipment as well as avoiding significant amounts of landfill waste.

Supporting The Circular Economy and Reducing Climate Impact

BMA operate on the principles of "reduce, reuse, recycle" across the business operation, in order to reduce energy usage and pollution. Through our ISO 14001:2015 accreditation, we are committed to continually improving the effectiveness of our integrated management system to enhance our environmental performance, minimise our impact on the environment, protect natural resources, and prevent pollution.

We remain dedicated to fulfilling our compliance obligations and codes of practice by managing our vehicle fleet and mileage, reducing energy usage in our facilities, and implementing carbon offsetting initiatives. In 2019 BMA began to replace sales and management company vehicles with electric and hybrid, low emission models, thereby reducing CO2 emissions as a business. All company cars are now electric and hybrid, low emissions vehicles as of 2021. We measure energy usage monthly with year-on-year reductions, and have installed low-energy LED lighting with automatic sensors throughout our business premises. Climate offset

We have partnered with Ecologi to help us achieve a carbon neutral workforce.  They have calculated our monthly impact, funding various Golden Standard, Verra CCBS or similarly certified projects around the world.  This includes the planting of 300 trees per month to remove almost 30 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere.

As of 2024, we have planted 6,700 trees, achieving a remarkable carbon avoidance of over 500 tonnes.

As a company that conducts business around the world, we support a truly global range of projects; however we also specifically and additionally support the planting of tress here in the UK.

Landfill avoidance and limitation of WEEE

At BMA, we are committed to supporting the principles of the circular economy. We will endeavour to sell all equipment collected, including items suitable for spares and repair, clearly indicating this to bidders to encourage reuse and extended product life. In cases where equipment does not achieve a sale through our auctions, we ensure it is responsibly processed for recycling via our accredited recycling partners, fully in line with the WEEE Directive. This approach maximises reuse, reduces waste, and promotes sustainable resource management.
