This month, British Medical Auctions celebrates its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of growth, international reach and meaningful impact in the healthcare and MedTech sectors.
Founded in 2016 by CEO Markus Grad in Bracknell, BMA has grown from a three-person start-up into a 37-strong specialist team. In that time, the business has helped reshape how surplus medical equipment is managed, reused and valued across global markets.
A Decade of Results
Since its first auction, BMA has:
-
Conducted more than 1,100 auctions
-
Brought over 300,000 medical equipment lots to market
-
Returned more than £100 million to healthcare organisations
-
Increased monthly transaction volumes by over 2,100%
-
Connected buyers and sellers across 120+ countries
Today, more than 500 healthcare organisations trust BMA to remarket surplus equipment, including over 65% of UK NHS Hospitals, more than 85% of NHS Ambulance Services and all major UK-wide private healthcare groups.
The company has built a global registered bidder base of more than 25,000 buyers and maintains a repeat business rate exceeding 95%, underlining the strength of its marketplace and service model.
Advancing the Circular Economy in Healthcare
Sustainability has been central to BMA’s growth. Over the past decade, more than 21,400 tonnes of medical equipment have been given a second life rather than scrapped. That is equivalent to approximately 2,850 African elephants, 100 fully assembled Boeing 747 aircraft, or more than five Eiffel Towers.
By extending the life of vital medical assets, BMA continues to demonstrate how commercial performance and responsible asset management can go hand in hand.
Continuing the Journey
As BMA marks its 10-year milestone, the focus remains on building responsibly on strong foundations.
The team will continue refining its technology, strengthening partnerships and supporting the responsible reuse of medical equipment across global markets. With a proven model, a trusted brand and a highly engaged buyer community, BMA is well positioned to keep delivering value to healthcare organisations while contributing to a more circular MedTech sector.
Congratulations to the BMA team on an impressive first decade and on building a business that delivers both commercial success and measurable impact.
