British Medical Auctions (BMA) was delighted to welcome a group of young people from Berkshire Youth to our headquarters for an interactive Career Day designed to provide real-world insight into business, leadership and entrepreneurship.
The event brought together young people aged 14-17 for a day of learning, collaboration and friendly competition, giving them the opportunity to explore how businesses operate while developing valuable skills in communication, teamwork and problem-solving.
The day began with a series of interactive sessions led by members of the BMA leadership team, each focusing on a different aspect of running a successful business.
Markus Grad, CEO of BMA, introduced the group to the world of sales, helping participants understand how businesses identify customer needs, build relationships and communicate value.
Craig Asghar, Head of Operations, provided an insight into the often unseen but critical role operations plays in every organisation, exploring logistics, planning, customer service, compliance and the systems that keep businesses running smoothly.
The final session, led by Mat Davies, focused on management and leadership, encouraging participants to think about what makes a great leader, how effective teams are built and why clear communication, trust and accountability are essential to success.
The learning was then put into practice through a Dragon’s Den-style challenge. Working in teams, participants developed their own business ideas and were tasked with considering not only what their product or service would be, but also how they would market it, manage it and deliver it operationally.
Supported by BMA team members throughout the afternoon, each group refined their ideas before presenting to a panel of “Dragons” made up of BMA colleagues. The presentations demonstrated impressive creativity, confidence and teamwork, with participants confidently pitching their concepts and answering challenging questions from the panel.
While prizes were awarded to the winning team, every participant should be proud of what they achieved throughout the day. Many stepped outside of their comfort zones, developed new skills and demonstrated qualities that will serve them well in their future education and careers.
The event reflects BMA’s commitment to supporting young people and helping them understand the wide range of opportunities available within modern businesses. From sales and operations to leadership and entrepreneurship, the day highlighted the many different skills and career paths that contribute to organisational success.
A huge thank you goes to Berkshire Youth for partnering with us on this initiative, and to Markus Grad, Craig Asghar, Mat Davies and the wider BMA team for giving their time, experience and encouragement throughout the day.
We look forward to building on the success of this event and continuing to support the development of future talent within our local community.
